A major roads improvement programme is underway in Angus.

The five-week project will see around 50km of carriageway undergo surface dressing at 36 sites.

The works involve applying chippings to a road surface coated in bitumen emulsion, sealing the surface and improving its texture.

In addition, project includes using heavy plant/machinery and Angus Council has issued a safety warning to motorists.

A spokesperson said: "Please drive slowly when travelling through work sites and stay within the speed limits. This is to protect our employees, yourself and other road users, as well as your vehicle. Pedestrian access will be maintained throughout.

"New surfaces can generally be driven within 15 minutes after completion but, again, please drive slowly and observe the temporary signs that will have been left in place.

"Depending on traffic flows, it can be up to six months before the surface achieves its final visual and structural characteristics."
