Work Begins On £10m Scottish Borders Primary School

Work is underway on a £10 million primary school in the Scottish Borders.

The first sods for the new Langlee Primary School were cut by pupils on Monday, 09 May.

The three-storey facility is being built by McLaughlin and Harvey (McL&H) and will include:

• 14 classrooms

• centre for children with severe and complex additional support needs

• provision for early learning and childcare

• sports hall

• outdoor MUGA pitch

The new school is expected to open in summer 2017.

Cllr Sandy Aitchison said: "Langlee's current school has served generations of children in Galashiels since being built in 1958.

"However, a new building is now clearly needed and I am delighted to see work start on-site."

Michael Kieran, McL&H's Construction Director, added: "We are delighted to have secured this contract and look forward to working closely with Scottish Borders Council, the design team and staff of Langlee Primary School to deliver this superb new facility in Galashiels."
