Work is underway on a gas maintenance project in Kirkintilloch, East Dunbartonshire.
SGN are carrying out essential improvement works as part of the first phase of the Cowgate public realm project.
Around £2 million is being invested in the town centre's streets and pavements.
East Dunbartonshire Council Leader Rhondda Geekie said: "The first phase of the Cowgate public realm project is beginning to take shape and I am looking forward to it being completed to give people a glimpse of the future for the town.
"SGN originally asked to access this area of the Cowgate in May - by which time the improvements currently underway would have been completed by our contractor.
"That would have meant digging up the newly-improved area and would have led to significantly more disruption.
"I am pleased the Council was able to work with SGN to ensure works were carried out now to minimise inconvenience to residents, traders, the church and other premises."
The public realm improvement project is a key part of Kirkintilloch Town Centre Masterplan.
The phased project began in February and is due to be completed in summer 2017.
