Work is due to begin on a new £17.5 million secondary school in Falkirk.

Final proposals for the building have been approved and the project is due to be completed by August 2017.

The new school will replace the current Carrongrange School which will be built on land next to Moray Primary School in Grangemouth.

Accommodating 190 pupils, the school will feature therapy and sensory rooms, a life skills training flat, a multi-purpose and flexible social space areas, swimming and hydro-therapy pools, a sensory garden and pupil transport drop-off zones.

The Scottish Government's 'Schools for the Future' programme is providing 50% of the projects cost, while the council will provide the remainder from its capital programme.

Robert Naylor, Director of Children's Services said: "The new school will provide pupils with a welcoming and flexible learning environment across two floors and will include modern specialist classroom equipment and facilities to meet the needs of all pupils."
