Work Progresses On AWPR/B-T Project - Transport Scotland

Work is continuing on the Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route/Balmedie-Tipperty (AWPR/B-T) project at Craibstone, Transport Scotland has announced.

A total of 20 beams are due to be delivered over the next two weekends to form the AWPR bridge over the A96 Aberdeen to Inverness trunk road.

Special abnormal load trucks carrying one beam each are planned to arrive between 02 – 03 April and 09 – 10 April.

Police Scotland will escort ten 31 metre beams to the site from Loirston, while the remaining 21 metre beams will be delivered unattended.

Deliveries will take place from 7am onwards.

A spokesperson for the AWPR/B-T project said: "We are working closely with Police Scotland and the local authorities to minimise any deliveries that these deliveries may bring.

"It is hoped that the deliveries can all be completed on the weekends outlined, but Saturday 16 April has been identified as a back-up should any of the deliveries be affected by matters out with the contractor's control, such as poor weather.

"Beam deliveries are integral to the project, which will have 75 principal structures, including two river crossings and one railway bridge, and over 70 culverts, and a significant number of these deliveries are expected over the next year or so."
