Glasgow Hospitals Win Property Award At MIPIM

A new Glasgow hospital development has been awarded an accolade at the MIPIM awards.

The Queen Elizabeth University Hospital (QEUH) and the Royal Hospital for Children (RHC) both scooped the Best Healthcare Development.

The £842 million project was designed by IBI Group and built by Brookfield Multiplex in partnership with NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde Board (NHSGGC).

The 14-storey 170,000 sq m building was one of four shortlisted entries voted for by event delegates and a judging panel made up of property professionals.

Features include colourful cantilevered 'pods', a naturally lit atrium, a bespoke patient and visitor sanctuary, a landscaped roof-top children's play area, intergrated artwork and the largest A&E in Scotland.

Robert Calderwood, Chief Executive, NHSGGC, said: "I am delighted that the design of the new QEUH and the RHC have been recognised internationally as one of the most outstanding healthcare projects across the world.

"We were a long time in the planning and construction but the results are now providing the residents of Greater Glasgow and Clyde and beyond state-of-the-art facilities at the forefront of the latest advances in healthcare."
