North Lanarkshire Council Nominated At UK Housing Awards

North Lanarkshire Council has been shortlisted for three accolades at the UK Housing Awards.

The event, organised by the Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH) and Inside Housing magazine, recognise the work by organisations to improve the lives of people within their communities.

The local authority has been put forward for:

• Outstanding Local Authority of the year for its empty homes purchase scheme

• Outstanding Campaign of the year for the Big Switch energy initiative

• Outstanding Approach to Repairs and Maintenance for dynamic scheduling.

More than 2,000 people have taken part in the Big Switch energy scheme so far, which helps residents save money on their energy bills.

In addition, the empty homes purchase initiative brings blighted properties back into community use. Over 40 homes have been bought through the scheme.

Award winners will be revealed at a ceremony in London on 26 April.
