Applicants are being invited to submit entries for the Scottish Borders Design Awards.

Organised by the council's Planning and Regulatory Services, the competition was last held in 2013.

The four categories this year are:

• New Build (individual buildings) – residential

• New Build (individual buildings) – non-residential

• Placemaking – new developments that contribute to creating a sense of place

• Work to Existing Buildings – including conversions/extensions.

Councillor Ron Smith said: "We want to encourage high quality design across all the Scottish Borders, in line with our policy set out in the Adopted Local Plan.

"We are keen to promote good quality modern or innovative design that respects the local context, whether rural or urban and these awards enable such projects to be recognised.

"As Chair of the Planning and Building Standards Committee, I know that my fellow committee members want to support innovative design and sustainable technology which will complement and enhance our Borders environment."

All types of projects are eligible from small to large scale, urban or rural, domestic or commercial, and if appropriate, applications can be considered for more than one category or award.

Submissions should be made no later than Friday, 29 April 2016.
