A new £11 million road and pavement network is to open at the Dundee Waterfront, it has been announced.

Contractors Sir Robert McAlpine were responsible for the two-year scheme, which included the creation of: Thomson Avenue, Riverside Esplanade, Earl Grey Place [East and West], Patent Slip Way, Whalers Way, Black Watch Parade, Waterfront Place, Discovery Plaza and Slessor Gardens.

The network will open on Friday, 26 February, while other 'soft landscaping' works are ongoing.

Ken Guild, Dundee City Council Leader, said: "This part of the development will have a massive impact on the city because now people will be able to drive and walk on the new streets connecting the centre to the riverfront.

"I called for patience at the start of this contract and I am delighted to say that in the main drivers using the area have been understanding and welcomed the phasing of the construction, which meant we were able to keep traffic flowing through what was at times a complex operation.

"A considerable amount of effort is now being focussed on generating and capitalising on developer interest in the plots that the new street pattern has created as well as those in other parts of the central waterfront area."
