Work Progresses New Retail Units In East Ayrshire

Construction News Image
Work is continuing on a project to build seven new retail units at a town in East Ayrshire.

Contractors are developing the facilities on Townhead Street in Cumnock.

Existing retailers and new tenants will move into the new units, three of which measure 117 sq m while the remaining four extend to 96 sq m.

The steel frame and substructure of the development is now complete, while blockwork, roof sheeting and mezzanine floors are now 90% complete.

Roadworks are now in place to allow new water and gas services to be connected.

Cll Jim Buchanan said: "It's great to see progress being made on this eagerly awaited development. For the occupiers these units offer a fresh start in purpose-built accommodation, with ample parking to the rear and parking out front for those with disabilities.

"They're just one part of the wider regeneration plan for Cumnock which has already seen the restoration of many of the town's historic buildings through the Conservation Area Regeneration Scheme (CARS) grant funding for building owners.

"The construction of the highly successful Rothesay House, has brought services and footfall into the centre. The Town hall has undergone a complete transformation and the new Knockroon Campus will offer excellent, state of the art facilities and education for every pupil in and around Cumnock and Auchinleck.

"The opening of these shops, and the future redevelopment of the outdated Glaisnock Centre will bring the town centre up to date."

The project is due to be completed in spring.
