The £2.2 million project in Cumbernauld town centre is being delivered by Hub South West.
Doig and Smith and Kier Construction have been commissioned to develop the proposals and produce an outline design for the scheme.
In addition, the council is working in partnership with Campsies Centre (Cumbernauld) Ltd, Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT) and Cumbernauld Shopping Centre.

The first stage of the project, which involves site investigations and initial design work, is expected to take three months and cost £49,500 [being met by SPT].
Cllr Kaye Harmon said: "The enhancements which will be made to Cumbernauld's bus stances will provide the town centre with a modern and accessible facility. Working with project partners, we are confident this will deliver significant improvements and benefits for the travelling public who visit the town as part of their journey.
"This initial phase of the project and tranche of funding is just part of SPT's much larger commitment to supporting the refurbishment of Cumbernauld town centre's bus facilities."
Work is expected to start on site by January 2017.
