The Scottish Government will provide a £2 million boost towards a £6.4 million schools project in Stirling, it has been announced.

The funding was revealed by Culture Secretary Fiona Hyslop during a visit to the region last week.

It is understood a new building will be built for St Margaret's Primary along with a new community hall.

In addition, a new Cowie Nursery will be developed in the St Margaret's building.

The custom-built facility will provide nursery care for all children aged 0 to 5-years-old.

It will include large, flexible playrooms that can be opened up to create large spaces or closed down to reduce space.

Nurture rooms and parent's rooms with direct access to outside play areas will also be developed.

The council's Director of Education, David Leng, said: "We are delighted with the new facilities planned for Cowie. This will give young people new and exciting learning opportunities."
