Along with external funding, the project is supported by the council's capital programme.

Councillor Alan Moir said: "I am delighted to welcome this significant funding boost from sportscotland for the Huntershill project.

"It's a great way to truly kick off 2016 and will help us to realise a long-cherished dream at Huntershill – providing a new, purpose-built home for a variety of sports and leisure pursuits."

Stewart Harris, Chief Executive of sportscotland, added: "It is fantastic to see the hub ethos right at the heart of this exciting new project at Huntershill and we are delighted to invest £500,000 to help the dream become a reality."
