Work has been completed on a £3.5 million transformation project in East Dunbartonshire.

A total of 52 flats at the Burns Court development in Kirkintilloch have been redeveloped into energy-efficient, modern properties which meet new technical standards

The three-year scheme included installing new kitchens, bathrooms and central heating systems, external wall insulation and thermally efficient double glazed windows.

In addition, A-rated central heating boilers were installed along with solar panels and a maintenance free pitched roof.

Works were also carried out to the building's façade, with new personal sun spaces for every flat.

Increased security measures were put in place as well, along with an advanced CCTV system and new refuse collection arrangements.

The regeneration brings the homes up to the Scottish Housing Quality Standards (SHQS) and ensure they meet meet strict energy efficiency standards five years ahead of the 2020 target.

Councillor Ashay Ghai said: "Not only do these flats look great but they are highly energy-efficient, which will save residents money on their bills for many years to come."

"We have invested £3.5m here and I could not be more impressed with the regeneration and the standard of work carried out.  As well as having modernised warmer homes to live in with new kitchens, bathrooms and central heating systems, they also have more space thanks to the creation of individual sun spaces for every flat. The old bin chutes have also been removed, meaning the closes are cleaner and sleeker."

"We have also given a lot of thought to security and a new concierge service will begin soon. CCTV images will be beamed into the office so together with new door entry systems, security will be a top priority."
