The Scottish Govt has announced it will provide £56 million in funding to improve deprived communities across the country.

The additional investment in local regeneration projects brings the total amount invested to £428m since 2007.

It is understood the money aims to attract private investors and create jobs through local projects.

Social Justice Secretary Alex Neil said: "The Scottish Government is committed to supporting local regeneration projects in our most deprived areas, where disadvantaged communities are supported and where all places are sustainable and promote well-being.

"Investing in community-led regeneration is a priority for this Government as we recognise that local communities are best placed to address inequalities and identify how their areas can be improved.

"Regeneration plays a vital role in supporting sustainable economic growth, by tackling area inequality, addressing market failure, and increasing opportunities for areas of need to attract investment and jobs."
