A new £12 million primary school has been opened in Aberdeenshire.

To mark the occasion, Council Leader Jenny Laing unveiled a plaque and officially opened Brimmond School in Bucksburn.

The development was designed by JM Architects.

The 4,500 sq m project began construction in April 2014 and will cater for 420 pupils.

In addition, it will provide 80 nursery places, along with accommodation for visual support services.

Features include new classroom and administration space, a cycle track, new basketball and netball courts, an all-weather 3G sports pitch and an adventure playground.

A sensory garden and a woodland wildlife area has also been built. Terrace-style areas on the first floor can also be used as outdoor classrooms.

Hub North Scotland was appointed development partner by the council, while the main contractor was Ogilvie Construction.

Councillor Laing said: "Brimmond School is an outstanding design and sets the standard which we intend to meet in all our future primary school buildings."
