Designs for new dining facilities to cater for an increase in Edinburgh primary schools' meal provisions have been revealed.

Planning applications have been submitted for the Cramond, East Craigs, Towerbank and Sciennes schools.

The Scottish Government has provided £4.5m to build the new dining facilities as it aims to provide free school meals for all P1 to P3's.

In addition, new gym halls are to be built at Cramond and east Craigs.

Towerbank and Sciennes will have extensions built to their existing dining halls.

Other school catering facilities will be upgraded across the city.

Councillor Paul Godzik said: "Parents at the four schools will be pleased to see the designs for the new accommodation and hear that planning applications have now been submitted.

"The schools have worked extremely hard to provide meals in difficult circumstances and I'm sure staff are looking forward to the new facilities."
