Aberdeen City Council has made a further £100,000 available towards a new initiative encouraging artists to support the region's cultural scene.

Previously, the Creative Spaces scheme awarded £55,000 towards the city's first independent, artist-led studio and production centre, the Anatomy Rooms.

The money will be used to transform disused University of Aberdeen classrooms in Marischal College, Broad Street, into a mix of studios, workshops and project rooms.

£100,000 has now been made available to meet costs associated with the design and refurbishment of studios, rehearsal and production spaces, co-working space, new equipment, training, and professional development needs of creative practitioners.

Councillor Angela Taylor said: "By providing a development fund the Council is helping to support the creation of new studio, rehearsal and production space, supporting employment in creative industries, increasing graduate retention, provide greater access to cultural activity, and enhance the city's support of existing and future cultural initiatives."
