Work is due to begin on a new link road in the Highlands, it has been announced.

Contractor Pat Munro (Alness) will be on site from 19 October to carry out work on the first stage of the Kinnairdie Link Road Scheme in Dingwall.

Improvements are to be made to the junction of the A862 Newton Road and the A834 Burn Place.

The A862 is to be widened to provide additional stacking length on the approach to the junction from the South.

An additional dedicated right turn lane serving Mart Road is to also be added North of the junction.

Resurfacing works will also take place for about 150m each side of the junction and the A862.

Further works including resurfacing footways and replacing traffic signals. Signs and street lights will be relocated and replaced where necessary along with improved drainage.

The work is scheduled to take 18 weeks and will take place over four phases.

Northbound traffic flow on the A862 will be maintained through the works during all phases. However, signed diversions will be in place for southbound traffic.
