Planning permission has been granted for a new £9.5 million primary school in Arygll and Bute.

The new facility is to be built on the existing site of Kirn Primary School and will be developed by Hub North Scotland.

While the existing 1881 Victorian building will be retained and refurbished, the remaining school buildings will be demolished and replaced by a new two-storey school building.

It will contain all the primary classrooms, library, dining hall and sports hall.

The design includes a variety of play and learning areas with different surfaces ranging from hard surfaces to grass, with a a school garden and a synthetic multi-use games area.

Councillor David Kinniburgh said: "We are delighted that planning permission for this project has been granted. The new school will be a real benefit to many people in and around Kirn for years to come."
