Work is progressing to deliver two 3G pitches in the Scottish Borders region.

The council has approved Volunteer Park in Hawick and Victoria Park in Peebles as the locations for the synthetic pitches.

Councillors have also agreed to take forward planning applications, grant funding applications to sportscotland and to continue the procurement process.

Additional funding of over £560,000 will be put towards Peebles, while £287,000 has been set aside for the Hawick scheme.

It is understood both the pitches could be built in 2016.

Councillors David Paterson and Ron Smith said: "We are pleased that progress is being made towards a much needed 3G pitch being built in Hawick.

"We welcome that the construction of the 3G pitch can be taken forward in association with the Hawick Flood Protection Scheme, which is also being developed by the Council."
