Work has started on a £12m housing development in Fife.

The Methil Brae project will be delivered by Robertson Partnership Homes and involves building 101 properties on the site of the former Glencast Foundry.

Council Leader David Ross, Cllr Judy Hamilton and Robertson's director Stewart Shearer cut the first sod of the development on Thursday, 24 September.

Properties on the 5.6 hectare project will be available for rent in Spring 2016.

Work is due to last approximately 18 months.

Companies working on the project include Sinclair Watt Architects in Methil, Realm Construction in Lochgelly and Scott Bennett Associates in Dunfermline.

Cllr Ross said: "This is a very significant milestone in reaching the Council’s commitment to deliver 2,700 new affordable homes by 2017 and will have a hugely positive impact on the tenants who move in here."

Mr Shearer added: "The Methil Brae project is a true community development. It has been designed by a local architect, will be worked on by local people and contractors – and will provide much needed homes for rent for the area."
