Aberdeenshire Council has released an update on the legal process of a £15m Flood Protection Scheme.

A Flood Protection Order was published earlier in 2015.

It marked a milestone on a project to alleviate future flooding in Stonehaven.

Head of Roads and Landscape Services, Philip McKay, said: "Promotion of the legal order for the Stonehaven Flood Protection Scheme began in early July with the public consultation running for eight weeks.

"All those with an interest in land affected by the scheme were notified and anyone could formally object to the proposed scheme.

"As required by the Act, the council is currently in the process of meeting with all 11 objectors with a view to resolving individual concerns where possible.

"If all objections are not resolved the scheme will referred to Scottish Ministers. A Public Local Inquiry or a Hearing would then take place and although the timescale for the process is not defined it is anticipated that this stage could take a number of months to conclude."
