South Ayrshire Council has been granted planning permission for a new £5m leisure and community facility.
The building, a partnership project between the council and South Carrick Community Leisure (SCCL), will be located at Girvan Harbour.
The facility will include a 25 metre swimming pool, soft play area, fitness gym, flexible multi-purpose studio/community space, changing facilities and cafe.
Morrison Construction, the design and build contractor for the project, will get underway with formal site building works in January 2016, with the facility to be open by March 2017.
Work will progress in the meantime on detailed designs for the building along with proposals for the operating model.
Council Leader Bill McIntosh said: "This is really exciting news for the new facility and marks a major step forward in turning our plans and vision into a reality for the people of Girvan and South Carrick. I'm delighted this project is now progressing at such a swift pace and it's testament to all the hard work and effort that has gone in to make this happen."
In addition, Morrison Construction is to hold a 'Meet the Buyer' event in conjunction with the council and SCCL.
The event will take place on 8 September between 9am – 12pm at the Town House, 25 Knockcushan Street in Girvan.
