Edinburgh councillors have approved plans for a new play park.

The improved facility will be developed at Craigpark Crescent.

Plans for the play park were created in response to community calls for a new outdoor space for children and young people.

The existing park was initially marked for closure following complaints from some local residents and concerns about the age and condition of the equipment.

However, after members of the community gathered to voice their support, a 'Friends of Craigpark Crescent Group' was established.

The group submitted a petition calling for new plans to be drawn up and was involved in developing new proposals.

The new facility will include a woodchip section with play equipment and a meadow flower area.

Funding of £30,000 is now in place to initiate the work and further improvements will be made as more funding is identified.

Councillor Lesley Hinds said: "It was clear that there was a lot of local support for a play park so it is only right that we listened to the community and that our plans reflect what they want to see.

"We have been working with residents to draw up plans for this new, improved facility and I am very pleased that they have now been approved."
