Angus Council has reported a near £180,000 reduction in its year-on-year spending on energy supplies for council buildings and street lighting.
Factors that helped the council reach this saving includes the introduction of energy efficient light fittings and other energy conservation projects.
Other causes include reduced energy consumption by street lights and a milder than expected winter.
A Communities Committee meeting held in Forfar on 18 August heard there was a 5.8% reduction in energy consumption in 2014-15 compared to the previous year and also a 5.5% reduction in carbon emissions over the same period.
A council spokesperson said: "Staff in departments across the council estate have helped us to achieve an excellent 4,200,148 kWh reduction energy consumption and the associated savings.
"As a direct result, we saw a very encouraging 1,280,104kg reduction in carbon emissions."
