Aberdeenshire Council is to hold an open day ahead of the opening of a new community facility in Ellon.

The public will be given the chance to preview the £36m Ellon Academy Community campus, located on Kellie Pearl Way, which has been under construction since 2013.

The facility, which has been part funded by the Scottish Futures Trust, features modern classrooms and learning zones, a library and canteen, along with a theatre and drama studios, kitchen and five multi-purpose rooms for community use.

Sports and leisure facilities include a five-lane 25 metre swimming pool with additional trainer pool, a four-court games hall, two additional sports halls and a fitness suite.

A suite of rooms has also been developed for North East Scotland College Ellon Learning Centre.

The open day will take place on 15 August between 9.30am and 3pm.

Councillor David Aitchison said: "The campus is the latest in a series of major infrastructure projects being delivered by Aberdeenshire Council through its capital plan and provides great opportunities for community use.

"I hope visitors will enjoy this first chance to see the modern facilities for themselves and think about how to get involved in the activities that will be on offer."

School pupils and local residents will be able to start using the new facilities at Ellon Academy Community Campus when the new school term begins on 20 August.
