A Grade B listed building is to be redeveloped into a four star hotel in Edinburgh.

The Charlotte Baptist Chapel on 204 Rose Street is to be renovated under new planning proposals lodged with the council.

Owner, the Glendola Leisure Group, in co-operation with their sister company Carlton Hotel Collection, plans to convert the former city centre chapel into a four star boutique hotel featuring 22 bedrooms.

Under the new plans, the fully detached 16,486 sq ft building will also house Edinburgh's first Bar & Beef restaurant, billed as a steak and gin bar.

Proposals for the building were shared at a public consultation in the chapel on 29 July, where community representatives, residents, local ward councillors and members of the public were given an opportunity to provide feedback.

Planning consultants JLL, acting on behalf of Glendola, are due to submit the planning application in the middle of August.

Deirdre McCarthy, Planning Consultant for JLL, said: "Development within the city centre has recently been focused on the east end.

"The redevelopment of 204 Rose Street is a great opportunity to introduce new vibrancy and activity at the west end of this iconic street in a building which is otherwise due to become vacant when the church community move out to their new premises in March next year.

"Feedback from the public consultation was positive and the proposals have been broadly welcomed by the local community."
