Investigation Work To Begin On A9 Next Month

Investigation work is set to begin on the southern section of the A9 between Birnam and Glen Garry next month.

Transport Scotland has today 10 July announced the intention to award the contract to Fugro Seacore subject to completion of the mandatory standstill period.

The deal, worth over £2.5 million, is for the 32 mile section of the A9 and will last for approximately three months.

Infrastructure Secretary Keith Brown said: "Dualling of the A9 has been talked about for decades, but I am proud that the Scottish Government is now delivering this much needed upgrade. This investment represents the most expensive transport project in Scotland’s history and presents some of the most challenging work ever undertaken.

"The ground investigations due to start next month between Birnam and Glen Garry will help inform the ongoing design work for the southern section of the Dualling programme.

"The ground investigation contract for the central section between Glen Garry and Dalraddy was awarded earlier this month and work is due to get underway shortly."

"In addition the Kincraig to Dalraddy project is at a more advanced stage with the contract now awarded and construction due to start this summer.

"The design work by the three appointed consultancies is moving on apace and we have recently been letting local communities see and comment on options as the work is further developed."
