East Dunbartonshire Council has announced it is to carry out a boiler installation programme in some of the regions schools.

The scheme will replace the dated oil and gas heating systems with efficient biomass boilers in four primary schools and two secondary schools.

The total cost of the investment is approximately £1.5 million but the new systems will be highly efficient resulting in significant revenue savings.

By conducting the programme, the council will receive a Renewal Heat Incentive (RHI) from the Scottish Government which is guaranteed for the next 20 years.

It is estimated the RHI will provide savings of £150,000 per year.

The following schools will have biomass boilers installed by the end of September:

• Castlehill Primary School.

• Clober Primary School.

• Gartconner Primary School.

• Oxgang Primary School.

• Lenzie Academy.

• Boclair Academy.

Councillor Ashay Ghai said: "This biomass boiler installation programme is a means of spending to save and we should see significant reductions in our energy bills and benefit from the Scottish Government’s Renewal Heat Incentive as a result.

"It is also another positive step towards reducing our carbon footprint and protecting the environment."
