Scottish Water (SW) has announced work is scheduled to upgrade water mains in the Cumnock area.

Contractors working for Scottish Water, Caledonia Water Alliance (CWA) will begin work on approximately 20 July to replace 5.3 miles of water mains with new plastic pipes.

The replacement pipes are less susceptible to bursts.

The improvement works are expected to be completed by early 2016.

However, SW has announced some road traffic management will be required during the project.

This will involve a lane closure on a short stretch of the A76 south of Cumnock for eight weeks.

The road south of the Skerrington roundabout will be reduced to one lane and single-file traffic with four-way temporary traffic lights at the roundabout.

A stretch of the B7083 from just off the roundabout up Glaisnock Road/Glaisnock Street to about the junction with Cairn Road will be reduced from two lanes to one with temporary traffic lights from late August for about 19 weeks.

From 7am to 6pm each week, SW and its contractors will manually control the traffic lights at Skerrington roundabout.
