Topping Out Ceremony Held For New School

A topping out ceremony has been completed marking the progress of a new high school in Edinburgh.

The new Portobello High School will accommodate 1,400 pupils and include new teaching facilities, a swimming pool and two all weather pitches.

A £1 million park will be built on the area, which will remain on the existing combined Portobello High School and St John’s RC Primary School site.

Balfour Beatty are contractors on the development.

Councillor Paul Godzik joined the retiring Portobello High School Head Teacher Peigi Macarthur and Balfour Beatty Regional Managing Director Hector Macaulay at the topping out ceremony.

Councillor Godzik said: "This is a key stage in the Portobello project and an exciting day for everyone involved."

Balfour Beatty also presented a Quaich to councillor Godzik to mark the occasion.

Development work began in October 2014 and is due to be completed next summer.
