East Ayrshire Council has agreed funding for a new synthetic pitch in Cumnock.

The Cumnock Juniors Community Enterprise (CJCE) is the main body behind the project.

The Scottish Government's Cashback for Communities fund introduced a new Cashback for Pitches programme in 2013, to be used exclusively for the development of dual use synthetic grass pitches.

By working collaboratively the CJCE could progress with their plans and apply for funding for a FIFA2 certified synthetic pitch with adjustable floodlighting.

Council leader Douglas Reid said: "Cumnock Juniors Community Enterprise group work tirelessly to improve the sporting offer within their local community.

"They have ensured that their planned development complies with both FIFA and International Rugby Board standards and have worked to secure funding of £0.455m."

Councillor Reid said the cabinet provided gap funding of up to £57,000 in the form of a grant to ensure CJCE can get a contract in place.

He added: "This will be only the second pitch of its kind in East Ayrshire, the other being Rugby Park."
