Council To Spend £250,000 Protecting Motorists

The Highland Council has announced £250,000 will be spent protecting motorists from road risks.

Hazards include large embankments, railways, water and rock slopes.

The Community Services Committee has agreed to spend the funds on Road Restraint Systems such as safety fencing and barriers at sites across the region.

The nine projects selected are:

• B801 in Caithness and North Sutherland (A838 Junction - Kinlochbervie Harbour)

• A837 and A839 in South Sutherland (A837: A894 Junction – B869 Junction and A839: A9T Junction-Acheilidh Road Junction, Rogart – Blairich Bridge)

• A890 in Mid and West Ross (Achnasheen – Lochcarron)

• A884 in Lochaber (two sites Carnoch-Lochaline)

• A890 in Skye and Lochalsh (Auchtertyre – Ardnarff)

• C1126 in Badenoch and Strathspey (Ski Road)

• A833 in Inverness (Culnakirk)

Director of Community Services, William Gilfillan, said: "We have put a Highland wide plan in place and identified risks."
