Orkney Council are inviting the public to take part in a flood risk management consultation for the county.

The Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) along with 14 local plan districts are jointly consulting on the future direction and delivery of flood risk management across the country.

Potential measures to address flooding includes routine inspection and maintenance of flood defences along with monitoring applications for developments in flood zones.

Steven Millar, a civil engineer with the council, said: "Later this year, SEPA will publish Flood Risk Management Strategies for the 14 districts covering Scotland.

"One of these is Orkney where the Council, in line with the other 13 districts, is due to publish a delivery plan in June next year setting out how flood risks in our area will be managed in the years ahead.

"The feedback from the consultation will be important in shaping this plan. We’d encourage people to take part – from individuals and businesses at potential risk of flooding, to community groups and other organisations with an interest in how flood risk is best managed in future."

The consultation is available online until 2 June.
