Work is underway on a new artificial pitch in the Scottish Borders region.

The £750,000 2G surface is being built next to Selkirk High School.

The council are providing £500,000 of funding towards the project, with sportscotland contributing the remaining £250,000.

Councillor Vicky Davidson said: "As a council we are committed to investing in improved sports facilities and this pitch will make a huge difference.

"We know our grass pitches can’t always be in great condition due to the Scottish climate but by securing new artificial surfaces we can give local people more opportunities to train and play the sports they enjoy to a higher level."

Stewart Jackson, Chief Executive of sportscotland, said: "This significant investment in the synthetic pitch next to Selkirk High School will help to provide more and better opportunities for people to play sport."
