Construction firm Robertson has started clearing the brownfield site for a new council house development in Dufftown, Moray.
Building work is to start on the 19 energy efficient houses due for completion by the end of the year. Eight of the houses are cottage flats, specially designed for older people.
Councillor Eric McGillivray, chairman of Moray Council's communities committee, said the council remained committed to building 500 new homes over the next 10 years.
He said: "It is important that these houses are built across Moray in order to support both urban and rural communities. These are the first properties to be built by the council in Speyside in recent years and will meet a range of housing needs."
