Comhairle Nan Eilean Siar is asking for opinions on a new collaboration to create a local Energy Supply Company with the ability to supply electricity to all households and businesses of the Outer Hebrides.
Collaborators for the project include Hebridean Housing Partnership, Tighean Innse Gall, The Stornoway Trust, Community Energy Scotland and Lewis Castle College UHI. The aim is to provide customers with cheaper electricity, but the council says other benefits could include local job creation, distributing any surplus funds to community projects and initiatives to reduce fuel poverty.
"To assist us with the development of the energy supply company we are now asking local businesses to complete a short on-line questionnaire about how they use electricity use within their business," the council said. "The information gathered by the questionnaire will be used to inform the Energy Supply Company's Business Plan."
The survey is available here and the closing date for responses is Tuesday 7 April 2015.
