Dundee's £1bn waterfront transformation project has received national recognition via an Infrastructure Sustainability CEEQUAL Excellent Award.

Dundee City Council and contractors Sir Robert McAlpine received the award from Professor Tim Broyd, a member of the CEEQUAL Board and VP of the Institution of Civil Engineers.

Work included diverting and installing underground services, a major junction realignment at Riverside Roundabout, demolition and rebuilding of Tay Road Bridge on/off ramps and creation of the new three lane Northern Boulevard.

A statement from CEEQUAL said: "Going for this award has allowed Dundee City Council to show its commitment to sustainability and environmental issues and for Sir Robert McAlpine to prove that they can deliver a sustainable project.

"By working closely together they have been able to achieve the target of obtaining an 'Excellent' award for the project."

Bill Campbell, depute convener of Dundee City Council’s city development received the award on behalf of the council. He said: "In a project of the scale, ambition and breadth of the waterfront which is based on enhancing the city centre environment and reconnecting the city with the estuary it is particularly pleasing to be recognised for carrying out the work in a sustainable way."
