Construction News Image
Work has begun on a new housing development at Lochore Terrace in Darvel.

The development is part of East Ayrshire Council's strategy to promote town centre living and will provide thirteen new-build affordable homes for rent.

The site will be a mix of four three-bedroom family homes and four two-bedroom family homes facing onto West Donnington Street.

Within an on-site courtyard there will be a further four two-bedroom bungalows and a two-bedroom home suitable for wheelchair users, which will have an integral car port.

Councillor Douglas Reid, Leader of the Council and Councillor Alan Brown, Spokesperson for Strategic Planning, Management and Resources visited the site to perform the official sod cut today.

Councillor Alan Brown said: "Throughout East Ayrshire new homes are being built within our town centres, transforming the lives of our tenants and regenerating areas which have lain empty for many years.

"Creating affordable homes, supporting the local building industry and creating jobs for local people; the housing building programme within East Ayrshire is changing both lives and the local townscape. I was delighted to perform the official sod cut and will be keeping myself up to date with progress on site throughout the build."

Built in partnership with Crudens Building and Renewals and supported by funding from the Scottish Government; work commenced on site in February and the homes are due for completion early in 2016.
