Work is set to begin on reinforcing a crumbling sea wall at Gourock’s Kempock Street car park in Inverclyde.

The move follows a report last year that corrosion was identified on the wall below the Kempock Street car park. As a precaution a small section of car park was closed off.

Work is now starting on placing 'rock armour' protection for the wall, as part of a £5m Gourock regeneration plan.

Inverclyde Council’s Regeneration Vice Convener, Councillor Jim Clocherty, said: "The long term protection of the sea wall is absolutely crucial at the Kempock Street car park area. I’d like to thank residents and visitors for their patience while the investigation work has been carried out and a solution developed. We will need to ask for their patience for a further time, which could be as much as 12 weeks depending on how well the work progresses in particular with the tidal influence at that location while the rock armour solution is put in place. I hope residents and visitors will recognise that the short term hassles will be worth it after this protective work is completed and the further £5m regeneration of Gourock is complete."
