Construction work on two new primary schools for Arbroath have been delayed due to a "contractual issue" with the contractor, according to Angus Council.

The two schools are Timmergreens Primary School and Warddykes Primary School. Work on both schools are thought to have been delayed by around six weeks.

Councillor Sheena Welsh, Education spokesperson for Angus Council, explained: "Work will now start in March, which is around six weeks later than expected. The delay is very disappointing but it is outwith our control, we don't appoint the contractor.

"A portion of the funding for the project is provided by the Scottish Future Trust and their procurement agent, Hubco, appoints the contractor."

It is understood Hubco was unable to resolve a "contractual issue" with the original contractor and is now appointing another one.

Further details will be released in due course.

The schools are still expected to open in 2016.
