Aberdeen City Council is to hold a special meeting next month to discuss the controversial Marischal Square development.

The meeting was put forward by Callum McCaig, SNP group leader, after a motion to place the project onto a full council agenda earlier this month was ruled "incompetent".

It has now been agreed by Aberdeen Lord Provost George Adam that a special meeting will be held on Thursday 5 March.

The developers behind the initiative, Muse, have said they will create "world class" facilities, including a hotel, retail and office space in the city. However, those opposed to the plans claim the build will block the view of historic Marischal College and Provost Skene's House.

Planning permission for the £107m scheme was approved last year, and will see the development created on a site in the city centre, where the former St Nicholas House council headquarters are due to be demolished.
