Tarbert Library To Move To New Premises

Tarbert Library is to move to a more central location, Argyll and Bute Council has said.

The facility will take residence on Harbour Street in the area and will provide more space and services for the local community. It will have a new layout, comfortable seating areas, new bright furnishings, children's area, and a meeting room for private study and classes, as well as free Wi-Fi.

A number of sites were considered for the new library, before Harbour Street was selected. Refurbishment work is now underway on the facility; and once completed, will provided improved services for the local community.

The existing library will close on Tuesday 3 and Thursday 5 March, with the new facility opening on Tuesday 10 March.

Welcoming the move, Councillor Robin Currie, Argyll and Bute Council's Policy Lead for Community and Culture, said: "The number of people visiting libraries in Argyll and Bute increased by 10% last year which pays tribute to the many and varied services now being provided. Libraries are becoming the focus for our communities to access a diverse range of services, information and learning opportunities.

"The council is working to maximise education, skills and training opportunities for all and our libraries are proving to be an accessible, welcoming and comfortable environment where people can pursue their interests."
