East Dunbartonshire Council has granted planing permission for 33 flats to be built on the site of a disused petrol station.
Work is already underway by developer McCarthy Stone to demolish the former petrol station on the Kirkintilloch Road in Bishopbriggs. When the building is fully razed to the ground, the site will be cleared and foundations for the new retirement properties will be delivered.
The three-storey development will also include landscaped gardens and 22 car parking spaces, two of which will be made available for blue badge holders.
Councillor Billy Hendry, Chair of East Dunbartonshire Council's Planning Board, said: "This site has been vacant for a number of years so to have it brought back into productive use is good news for the local community.
"As part of our planning conditions, the developer will contribute £11,880 to be invested in local parks and open spaces."
