West Dunbartonshire Council has said it is looking at options to allow a proposed new Clydebank Health Centre to go ahead.
Earlier this year, it was agreed by NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde that it would progress with work on the Greenock Health Centre. The decision came at the cost of the Clydebank option, but the local authority then approached the Scottish Government, outlining the benefits the latter option would bring to the area.
Cabinet Secretary for Health and Wellbeing, Shona Robison, responded to the council and said the government "recognises the benefits of the proposal for a new Clydebank Health and Care Centre which would take forward the integration of the health and social care agenda, while at the same time generating economic regeneration in the area."
She added: "The Scottish Government will work closely with NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde to urgently establish options for taking this project forward and realise the benefits that have been highlighted."
Welcoming the response, Councillor Gail Casey, Chair of West Dunbartonshire Community Health and Care Partnership, said: "I am greatly encouraged by the response from the Cabinet Secretary and her recognition, on behalf of Scottish Government, that the case for a new Clydebank Health Centre has been established.
"I know how important the Health Centre is for the people of Clydebank, and for the successful regeneration of this key site, so this is really positive development. We look forward to working with the local NHS board and with Scottish Government to make this project a reality in as short a time as possible."
