Plans to construct a new replacement school for Abington Primary in South Lanarkshire, have been approved.
Work on the £3.6m tandem build project will commence in the spring. Pupils at the school will be able to remain in their current building while the new facility is being constructed on Carlisle Road in the area.
When completed, the single-storey school will consist of two classrooms, a library, activity area, 20/20 Nursery, a combined gym/dining hall – complete with stage, IT facilities throughout the building, a 3G multi-use games pitch and new vehicle access and parking area.
The new school will be constructed on the southern part of the current site, where a grass football pitch is currently located. When the new facility is complete, the existing building will be used as a decant facility for Crawford Primary School, before being demolished to allow an area of the land to be transformed into a children's play park.
