A £2.5m affordable housing development has officially opened in Ratho, Edinburgh.
The development, known as 'The Mooring', is located next to the Union Canal and is within the Ratho Conservation Area. It is also close to a marina and open public space.
Consisting of 19 modern and energy-efficient properties, the one- and two-bedroom flats, three-bedroom maisonettes and cottage flats, will be able to accommodate individuals, couples and families. A two-bedroom flat has also been constructed and designed to meet the needs of wheelchair users. Each property has been installed with gas central heating and hot water systems, high thermal insulation and double glazing to create warm, comfortable and economical homes.
They will be made available for social and intermediate rent and have been delivered by Link Group, who will also manage the properties as Registered Social Landlords, while CALA was the appointed contractor to the scheme.
Attending the official opening, Councillor Cammy Day, Edinburgh City Council's Housing Leader, said: "The Mooring really captures what we're aiming for across the city – a range of affordable, energy efficient homes that are completed to the highest standard.
"2014 was a record breaking year for Edinburgh in terms of delivering these much needed properties. The completion of The Mooring continues this trend and I look forward to working with partners like Link to provide more affordable homes throughout the Capital."
Roy Stirrat, Chairman at Link Group, added: "We are delighted to have been supported by the Scottish Government and the City of Edinburgh Council to enable us to continue to build new, high quality homes at rents affordable to people on low or limited fixed incomes to help address the shortfall in the provision of quality accommodation in Edinburgh."
