Work has commenced on a new housing development in Thornton, Fife.

The 31 homes will be constructed at Orebank Terrace and consist of bungalows, four-in-a-block flats and two-storey houses, ranging from one- to five-bedrooms. The development will also include wheelchair and amenity housing.

Councillor Judy Hamilton, Executive spokesperson for Housing and Building Services, said: "So far over 800 new homes have been built across Fife where families and individuals are settling into good quality rented accommodation that fits their need.

"I'm pleased to be here today to find out more about the construction of these 31 homes which will undoubtedly make such a difference for their future tenants too.

"This is a significant development for the Council as it will be built 'in-house'. The Council go beyond industry standard and include important features such as sprinkler systems and have high insulation standards which can help to tackle fuel poverty."

Councillor Altany Craik, Chair of the Glenrothes Area Committee, added: "I'm very pleased that work is beginning on site here today. We need 600 new homes in the Glenrothes area to meet the local need and this will go some way towards delivering on that."
