Repairs Needed To Thurso Sea Walls

Repairs need to be carried out to a sea wall in Thurso after it was damaged in stormy weather.

According to the Highland Council, a tidal wave swept up Thurso river during high tide and the force damaged a section of the concrete wall, leaving blocks of it on the road. The blocks had been tossed in the air and landed on the access road; as a result, sea water was then able to breach the sea wall. Debris was scattered across the immediate area including the esplanade and riverside. No properties are thought to have suffered any water damage in the incident, and no one was injured.

Emergency repairs have been carried out to the structure and clear up work has started.

Council staff will now fully assess the damage to the wall in detail and submit their recommendations.
